Flashback Friday - Swollen

Jack spent many weeks swollen and you can really see it in his belly in the picture above. Fluid retention is such a huge issue in the NICU. We didn't know how huge, until Jack had renal failure. He couldn't pee and the fluid continued to build and build. Thankfully, after preparing for the worst, it got under control.

Your words to Jack make my heart both swell and ache at the same time.

This picture reminds me so much of my son, when he was just a week or so old in to his NICU stay. I too was told that he would not make it, that he was brain dead and then they decided that because he was retaining fluid or what they called third spacing that when the swelling subsided that his brain would look like swiss cheese. I'm very blessed to say that, that did not happy and I have a very happy 15 month old boy home with me and his daddy...I haven't looked at my son's photos of this in a long time and I just lost my schmidt. But I wanted to say thank you for your blog. It's nice to read about another mother's journey. I can feel the truth, pain and honesty in your words and can relate on so many levels. My son Tyree is not a micro preemie but is a preemie born at 30 weeks and I still believe that I am suffering from PTSD. Again, that you for sharing your blog and allowing us to read about your miricle son and your family.

Oh thank you for commenting, Rebecca! I love to hear from people who happen to stumble upon our blog. It's so hard to look at the NICU pictures. But it's also good to remind yourself of how far you've come. LOVED hearing from you.
