A New Year

Jon and I went out on New Years Eve for an early dinner. I have been stuck with a yucky head cold for about a week now and I didn't really feel like going out to eat, but I'm really glad we did. We had our trusty babysitters (Grams and Cheeks) in town so we just had to take them up on their offer. We got a chance to talk about what we wanted to accomplish this next year. But mostly about what we wanted for Jack. It's one of our favorite things to do together - to dream and make goals.

Having a child like Jack puts us planning types in kind of a semi-limbo state. You just never know what can come up and you can't plan too far ahead. We have learned this the hard way. So we now leave room for those things that stop you in your tracks and change your direction. You just have to be flexible with a micropreemie.

Someone asked Jon recently what his 10 year plan was. Jon said he felt like laughing out loud when the person asked him. We just can't plan in 10 year increments. Gone are those days. Still, we dream in our own way and I've come to really appreciate the perspective that Jack has given us about life - the joy from it and also the frailty of it.

All of this to say, it's a really exciting time in our lives. We have a lot of unanswered questions, but that's just part of this great adventure. I will be posting more on our 2012 goals as far as Jack is concerned as this week goes on. Make sure to check back to hear about physical, feeding, occupational, and speech therapy goals that we have. I can't wait to see the progress he makes!!

I'm gonna leave you with some pics of our little Christmas celebration that we had with Grams and Cheeks this weekend. Jackpants was especially cute in his Superman pjs.

We got to eat one of our favorites - Aebleskivers.

so good

In love with these pjs.

Jack's "stocking" this year from Grams and Cheeks (you just can't have enough 2 oz. syringes for g-tube bolus feeds).

New book that Jack has to "inspect" first. This requires flipping the book over and over , multiple times.

of course he loves the ribbon

Jack's favorite new thing to do is play with daddy's hair. I'm pretty sure I have about 20 pictures from this very day where Jack is combing through Jon's hair with his fingers.

I want you all to know that as I was typing this, Jack has been right next to me. He has discovered that he can not only jump on the bed, but jump on the couch, too. He makes monkey sounds while jumping. Very, very high-pitched monkey sounds. Lovely. If any of this post does not make sense, you now know why.
