Garage Walkin'

I don't know why we've never thought of this before.  I mean, we live out of town and in an area with about 8 months of winter... and I'm talking about snow on the ground for 8 months. Our house is narrow, with not a lot of open space. This creates a problem when Jack needs to practice walking with his gait trainer. Oh and did I mention that we just have dirt roads around us? Gets really muddy. No walking down the sidewalk, because we don't have those either.

We've done mall walking. That works out really good, because no one goes to the mall in our town and there are no crowds to deal with. But it's a 40 minute drive round trip and sometimes it would be nice to stay home.

This weekend, Jon came up with the best idea so far: Garage Walking.

We move the cars out and then Jack can zoom away with his walker at his heart's content. Why didn't we think of this before???

I don't know how much more Jack could look like an old man here.

Using the walker is such good practice. Right after Jack was out walking with daddy, he came inside and proceeded to take many, many steps throughout the night. Jack is up to ten consistent steps. Now he just needs to work on balance and the ever important CONFIDENCE.

Beautiful (almost-walking-independently) Boy!

I think confidence is the ticket, too! Each morning, after Bea learned to walk, it would take her several hours before she re-built her confidence each day to walk around the house. Of course, it didn't hurt that I celebrated each step like she just won the Nobel Prize :)

Oh, he is so cute walking! I love that smile he has when he is garage walking. He looks so proud - just like we all are of him!

FUN! Love his pants. I think he needs loafers to go with them. :) So glad you found a fun place for him to walk...might help the winter go by more quickly.
