The 40 Minute Nap

... not good.

The 40 minute nap has been making an appearance around these parts lately. I'm not sure the reason, but I really, really don't want to hear about other kids who take 3 hour naps. I'm pretty sure we've never seen a 3 hour nap in these parts since, well, ever? Heck, I'm not even picky. I'd take a two hour nap if it were possible. I think Jack knows he's missing something, so he gets in just the bare minimum of what he needs and then is ready to GO. Anyone else out there in the 40 minute nap club?

The 40 minute nap also coincides nicely with the 40 minute temper tantrum which Jack had at a play date today. It started when I put him down on the grass to show off his walking skills. I was thinking he would take a step or two, we would all cheer, then it would be all roses, rainbows, and puppies. But no. He wasn't into it and certainly wasn't going to show off and take any steps. He basically fell right over when I let go of him and he was so, so very mad at me. To think I would try such a thing! I didn't hear the end of it.

I won't even tell you what happened when we went to Target...

Ah, Yep. This is where it gets hard to be a preemie mom, huh? I don't know if you're like me, but I cannot bare to let Bea cry it out. So basically everytime, I give in and go in there. Every. Single. Time. And right now? She's sitting beside me watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix because she's boycotting nap today. Mommy needs a glass of wine tonight.

40 minutes is definitely a staple in our house. About 3 of those a day. Anywhere from 30-50 minutes. Every single day. But the plus side is he sleeps well at night.

This 40 minute nap business must be a preemie thing! lol Owen always takes 40 minute naps - since the day we brought him home. I had no idea kids were supposed to take longer naps until his little brother came along. Isaiah takes 3 hour naps but, because they sleep in the same room, his nap is often cut short due to Owens 40 minute nap.

I have to say, I am soo sorry for your dealings with the temper tantrums. Owen is just starting them but they haven't been too bad yet. I want to hear your target story! I need to know what I am getting into. I hope your night is filled with sleep and silence :)

Oh the 42min nap is an everyday thing in our house. Averleigh usually insists on a morning nap with me to cuddle the whole time. The afternoon usually not much more and generally she tries to nap on me the whole time. Yup, I hear about mum's that get all sorts of amazing stuff done during these magical long, no-hassel hours of napping and I just shudder. About once a week we get a surprise 1.5 hour nap and she wakes up nice and rested, but does she learn? Nope, she just gives me the "tough luck mummy" face

We too are members of the 40 minute nap club. And here I thought we were the only ones! On his most exhausted day, Samuel has taken no greater than a 2 hour nap. Mostly, we are lucky if he sleeps more than half an hour. I think our boys would make good friends. Sorry about the rough day. We had one too.
