Slow and Steady

Jack has kept at his timid bites and licks of food today. I've been praying all day for a breakthrough and will continue to until I see it. I just want to see him eat a big bite of something with texture. And much more volume in general would nice. Today Jack probably didn't get as many calories as yesterday, but we have to keep reminding ourselves that we aren't counting calories and his progress doesn't really have to do with calories anyways. It's still hard and we have to constantly remind ourselves of our goals while being here.

Jack was weighed this morning and has lost a couple of ounces since starting the wean, but he certainly isn't starving. He still has energy and seems to be enjoying his time here, especially the swing out on the playground. He loves seeing all the other kids and pestering people by saying "hi" over, and over, and over again.

One thing we've noticed today is that Jack is really interested in what mom and dad are eating and drinking. He watches us super closely, analyzing everything we put in our mouth. He dove right for my decaf, nonfat, no whip mocha this morning. He drank more of that mocha than probably anything else since he used to take a bottle! We happily showed Jack's new love of Starbucks to the therapist, who thought it was pretty great since Jack was closing his lips around the cup opening. It was a big step.

We also got to offer Jack a waffle today, but he didn't know what to do with it. He took a few bites, but would immediately spit it out. Our therapist said that in a few days he might be ready for pancakes and waffles. I can't even imagine what that will be like. To be able to go out for breakfast as a family, and order Jack some pancakes, would be a dream come true.

Until then, we'll keep going at this whole eating thing slow and steady.

Slow and steady is good, but hard! It must be hard to set aside those longings you have and just let him go at his pace! :) Praying for you!

Starbucks and waffles. Yum! Jack and I are kindred spirits! :) I'll pray tonight for Jack to grow to love all kinds of foods and textures, and for it just to "click" while you are in Seattle. These are certainly exciting times in the life of Mr. Jackpants!
