Day 15

Day 15: A picture of something you want to do before you die

gettin' comfy before takeoff/freakout

I want to travel the world.

Both Jon and I had traveled quite a bit growing up, before we got married. A few years ago we sat down and listed off everywhere we wanted to go together. And we made a ranking system (Category One being the best). It's cool to see some crossed off the list already and the places left to go.

Dream Travels

Category One:

Mexico (Mayan & Aztec ruins)
England & Ireland
France (honeymoon) - June 2004
Germany & Italy (trip planned for September 2012 for my 30th birthday celebration)
New England
Utah Parks, Vegas and Grand Canyon – June 2008
China – May 2007  (and Jon again in October 2011)
Miami – November 2006

Category Two:

New York City - September 2004 (another one planned for May 2011)
Washington, DC
San Francisco - November 2007
Wine Country (Napa Valley)
Disney World (when Jack is old enough)
Israel & Egypt & Petra
Peru (Machu Picchu)
Turkey & Greece

Category Three:

Deep South
Mediterranean (think island hopping)
South America (Rio)
Eastern Europe
Morocco & Spain
African Safari

I love the planning process when traveling - where to stay, what to see, what to eat. It's so much fun!

What I hate about traveling? Flying. IT. FREAKS. ME. OUT. Ever since 9/11, I have been afraid to fly and it really sucks. I know I'm not alone in my fear of flying, but I need to get over it, because it ruins the first and last day of traveling for me. Growing up, I went to a whole lot of places without any fear. I gotta get back to that.

The best travel guides, in my opinion, are anything by Rick Steves. He focuses mostly on Europe. Jon and I sat down and watched his whole PBS series (for days) over one Christmas break. It was so much fun to just dream about traveling.

I can't wait for our next adventure!

Love your category ideas. We have a vague list of places we've talked about but of course, I like the list idea. Cory's been trying to convince me to change our Hawaii plans to Cuba. Umm...I think our kids need their parents. Cuba might be his number one place. Anywhere tropical is my number one place. :)

I can SO relate, Jessi! I also love to travel and hate flying. And yes, I'm also a wreck the first and last day, but it's really worth it, isn't it? I'm considering a trip to Brazil in June with my church. So, take the feat or flying and add in the complexity of food allergies and a language barrier? Aaaahhh! Let's just say I'm a bit freaked out, but at the same time, I don't want to let fear hold me back. So, my application is going to be turned in on Monday. :)

*fear* (not feat)

Lindsay - go for it!!! I always take an anti-anxiety med before I fly. It's the only way I don't freak out and drive my husband crazy. As for the food allergy... bring lots of snacks you can eat? That will be so cool!

Fun post! Chuck and I have a similar list. But, we are both signed up for Jetsetter...have you done this??!! It is amazing. Good deals on fancy places that you normally would never consider. It is how we did our Charleston trip. Sign up and let the drooling begin!
