Day 9

Day 9: A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most

This picture of Jon and I was taken in the summer of 2009, at my brother's wedding. It was such a bittersweet day. We were so very happy for my brother and excited for his new life with Kay, but our hearts were in the hospital where our son was.

Still, I love this photo. It reminds me that I can face any day with Jon by my side.

That summer forever changed me and made me stronger. I could not have done it without my husband. He got me through some of the darkest, bleakest days of my life. He was there to comfort, encourage, and just hold me. He took our devastating situation and without diminishing how serious it was, made the most of each day by taking care of me, taking me out on special dates, and journaling Jack's progress. During all of this he was going back and forth hundreds of miles to work. He had so much to juggle, but he was there for me. I knew I could count on him and that together, we could take whatever that came our way.

We had some difficult decisions to make while Jack was in the NICU. We were given the option at three separate times to pull life support. My husband did not shrink away from these decisions. My first instinct was to run and run away fast. Without him, I might have. He was there for me and he was there for our son. I can count on my husband for anything and I am so thankful for him.
